The EAC Youth Agenda Consultations.

The East Africa We Want Consultations were part of pre-summit activities, organized together with YouLead consortium members at national level (one convening per EAC Partner State). The consultations were conducted online in the form of open webinars with each country having a dedicated day of consultation.

The East African Community National Youth Council Roundtables

YouLead and EAC YAP in partnership with the Kenya National Youth Council convened the East African National Youth Council Roundtable as a pre-summit activity, bringing together National Youth Councils and representative bodies from the 6 member states to consolidate the gains made for youth participation in the regional integration process.

Border Outreach Programme

Under the African Union Border Program (AUBP), the East African Community Youth Ambassadors undertook a multi-stakeholder outreach programme targeting the border districts/communities aimed at sensitizing the youth within the border communities, local leaders and actors as well as border agencies on issues hindering regular cross border movements and threats linked to irregular movements such as smuggling or trafficking as well as evaluation of the response to the covid-19 pandemic in line with the EAC Response plan.

East African Youth Peace Network

The East African Peace Network aims to bring together youth to foster youth inclusion in peace and security initiatives in East Africa and to build capacity towards youth engagement in early warning and early response to prevent or resolve conflict.

Advocacy actions (meeting EALA 2015 on the creation of the EAC youth council)

Members of the platform advocate for interests and policies friendly to the youth of the region. Notably in 2015, a delegation of members set out to meet the EALA members, petitioning the legislators to propose the motion to implement section 9.2 of the EAC Youth policy that provides for the formation of the EAC Youth Council. This led to the initialization of the process of national consultations on the nature and composition of the regional youth council.

Election Observer Missions (2014, 2017, 2020)

Members of the platform have been part of the compositions of the EAC Election Observer Missions deployed during general elections in the different member states, in 2017 for the general elections of the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Kenya and in 2020 for the general elections in the Republic of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania. The ambassadors will continue to participate.

EAC mobile App Creation

EACYAP, through its technology enthusiast members, proposed to the secretariat the creation of a mobile application to ease access of information and the database of the EAC on an interactive interface for youth.

YouLead Summit

The YouLead Summit is the climax youth engagement event which EACYAP delivers as one with YouLead Africa in accordance with the MoU signed between the EAC Secretariat and MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation. The summit brings together highlevel delegates, youth leaders and entrepreneurs under the pillars youth in politics, youth in business, youth in peace, security and gender equality. The outcomes of the summit inform the post summit agenda effected at country level.

Member of the African Youth front on Coronavirus

The EAC Youth Ambassadors Platform, as members of the Africa Youth Front on COVID 19 led the development of the Regional Youth Action Plan on COVID19 as a key contributor to the post pandemic working group that seeks to develop youth led measures that take into account the challenges faced by young people during the pandemic and involves them as equal stakeholders in the African recovery process working with the ECOWAS Youth Council , SADC Youth Forum and the Office of the African Union Youth Envoy.
